Marta Minujín: Dreamscape Brings Monumental Art to Miami Design District

The Miami Design District continues its commitment to showcasing extraordinary artistic experiences with Marta Minujín: Dreamscape, a groundbreaking public installation presented in collaboration with The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami). This immersive exhibition marks the acclaimed Argentine artist’s first large-scale public project in Miami, offering visitors a rare opportunity to engage with her dynamic, multisensory creations.

On view from March 18 to 31, 2025, Dreamscape transforms Jungle Plaza with two of Minujín’s monumental inflatable sculptures, bringing her signature bold colors, interactive elements, and participatory themes to life. Known for pushing the boundaries of contemporary art, Minujín has captivated audiences for over six decades with her avant-garde approach, pioneering immersive environments, and large-scale installations that invite exploration and collective engagement.

A Journey Through Playful, Immersive Spaces

At the heart of Dreamscape are two monumental sculptures designed to transport visitors into Minujín’s vibrant world of form, color, and interaction:

  • Sculpture of Desires – Rising 30 feet above Jungle Plaza, this striking inflatable artwork consists of intertwined, luminous arms forming a glowing portal. The piece embodies Minujín’s signature approach—bold, playful, and deeply symbolic—inviting visitors to step into an otherworldly space of imagination and reflection.

  • Emotional Candy – A labyrinth of merging hallways, Emotional Candy offers a multisensory experience meant to both disorient and delight. The sculpture’s fluid, undulating forms recall Minujín’s pioneering mattress sculptures from the 1960s, enveloping visitors in an environment of neon vibrancy. Throughout the installation, ambient birdsong recordings create a meditative atmosphere, encouraging guests to whisper their wishes into the luminous walls.

Marta Minujín: A Visionary in Contemporary Art

Born in Argentina in 1943, Marta Minujín has long been recognized as a leading figure in avant-garde art. Her career spans performance, happenings, and mass media interventions, consistently challenging traditional artistic norms.

Minujín first gained international recognition with radical works such as The Destruction (1963), in which she burned her own artwork to signify transformation and renewal. She later pioneered immersive art environments with The Long Shot(1964) and Mayhem (1965), and in 1983, she created The Parthenon of Books, a towering installation of censored literature celebrating Argentina’s return to democracy. Her work continues to champion themes of freedom, participation, and collective experience, making her a defining voice in contemporary art.
